iPhone 5 to launch with 4G LTE features? Samsung to sue.

The complex Apple vs Samsung legal battle is far from over, despite the latter?s heavy loss in one of the U.S. patent-based trials between the two.

And while Samsung is going to work with carrier partners to modify its devices to address most, if not all, Apple?s patent infringement claims that the jury found Samsung to be violating with a variety of Galaxy-branded devices, that?s not the only path the company is considering.

Samusng will surely appeal the verdict, and it?s prepared to bring a new suit against Apple should the company launch an iPhone 5 with LTE capabilities, at least that?s what Korea Times is suggesting.

Apple is already rumored to launch its sixth-generation iPhone, mistakenly labeled as the iPhone 5, on September 21, and the device is most likely going to come with LTE features on board, just like the third-generation iPad that hit stores in early spring.

Therefore, Samsung is most likely to try to stop iPhone 5 sales in various regions, U.S. included. The company tried to block iPhone 4S sales in various markets too in October 2011 when the fifth-generation iPhone was launched, but was unsuccessful. Similarly, Apple wanted to obtain a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. ? which launched in mid-June ? but the courts rejected Apple?s motion.

Chances are that Samsung?s preemptive move against the new iPhone will not succeed especially if it brings up FRAND patents again, but also because Apple will probably argue that it has licensed its LTE technology from Qualcomm, itself a holder of a hefty LTE patent portfolio ? the kind of argument that worked out for the company in the recently finished U.S. trial when Apple defended against alleged Samsung 3G patents infringement by bringing Intel into the fight. And the jury did not find Apple to infringe on any Samsung patent, while also deeming all of Samsung?s patents to be valid. But let?s not get ahead of ourselves and wait to see what happens.

Young children share rewards based on merit

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? Young children take merit into account when sharing resources, according to research published Aug. 29 in the open access journal PLOS ONE.

The study, conducted by Patricia Kanngiesser and Felix Warneken at Harvard University, showed that 3 and 5-year-olds considered both the amount of work they contributed themselves and their partner's contribution level when doling out rewards.

This sharing pattern is not infallible though; the researchers found that the children did have a self-serving bias, and few of them gave away more than half of the reward, even when their partner had worked more.

"It was long thought that young children only care about their own benefit when distributing rewards, but our findings show that they are sensitive to fairness principles like merit. Our sense of fairness thus already develops in early childhood," says Dr. Kanngiesser.

Discover makes it easy to add card to Google Wallet

We mentioned back the beginning of the month that Google Wallet now supports all major credit cards and debit cards. One of the last major credit card holdouts was Discover, and as of today, Discover is offering up more details on its support for Google Wallet. It appears that Discover is making it easier for users to add their credit cards to their Google Wallet.

Discover has announced that it has partnered with Google to allow card members to save their credit card information directly into Google Wallet by logging into the online Account Center. That account center for adding the card to Google Wallet is at the URL Discover.com/googlewallet. When the card is added to a compatible phone with NFC technology inside the user can pay using their phone rather than digging out the credit card at participating retailers.

Discover says that once members are logged into the Account Center, adding the card is a simple process of making a few clicks. The credit card will sync automatically to the Google Wallet application for users with NFC smartphones. Users can also add the card directly through the Google Wallet mobile application.

I think Google Wallet is finally starting to go mainstream. I live in a more rural area, and I?ve noticed that several retailers now have signs up that they accept Google Wallet. I?m still concerned that by finding my phone, nefarious sorts would have access to my credit card information. Granted, if they found my wallet, they would have the same information access.

Santino Marella and Eve take over L.A.'s ESPN Zone

Santino Marella at ESPN Zone

LOS ANGELES ? Whoever though it was a good idea to allow Santino Marella into the kitchen of the downtown L.A. ESPN Zone on a busy Friday night was probably regretting their decision by the time the Italian Superstar began putting his own touches on the restaurant's "Cobb-ra Salad."

?You have to put everything in a straight line,? the United States Champion said of the dish. "All the ingredients go in a straight line on top of a bed of lettuce,"

Strange salad preparation aside, the United States Champion and the beautiful Eve had a blast with WWE fans inside the popular eatery located only steps away from the Staples Center where SummerSlam will emanate on Sunday night. On hand to help out with the dinnertime rush, Eve and Santino did their best to keep pace while waiters and waitresses rushed around in SummerSlam T-shirts. (PHOTOS)

?I was taking orders, delivering food, welcoming guests at the ESPN Zone,? Marella said. ?Just having a fun time.?

As diners ordered from a WWE-themed menu, featuring ?Superstar Salads? and ?SummerSlamwiches,? Eve pitched in by preparing pizza and wraps in the kitchen ? or at least trying to.

?I?ve always known I was pretty bad in the kitchen,? the former Divas Champion said. ?But this just made me realize how bad of a cook I really am.?

In truth, Eve?s pizza wasn?t half bad, but the gorgeous Diva had better luck when she took over as hostess. ESPN Zone customers were pleasantly surprised as they were welcomed to the restaurant by the stunner?s bright smile.

?I?ve got something in case this whole WWE Diva thing doesn?t work out,? Eve joked.

The night wasn?t all friendly fun, though. After trading insults under their breath for most of the evening, Eve and Santino finally faced off. Their battlefield? The ESPN Zone?s air hockey table where the United States Champion proved that his right arm is devastating even without the Cobra wrapped around it.

?I destroyed her,? Santino said of his shutout victory over the Assistant to the SmackDown General Manager. ?I have no mercy when it comes to games.?

After settling their score, Eve and Santino shot hoops and bowled with WWE fans in the ESPN Zone?s huge game room. It was an enjoyable end to a night that included trivia, a Q&A session, and at least one botched order from the Italian Superstar. But WWE.com still had one burning question ? what's the secret ingredient of a "Cobb-ra Salad?"

?Italian dressing,? Santino finally blurted out. ?And blue cheese, of course.?

Buying A Condo Versus A Single ? Family House ? Articles. All day ...

Pondering that the idea of possessing condos or apartments are for rich individuals is completely wrong because there are condos that are fairly priced such as ann arbor condominiums. There are numerous great condo offers in the market these days and that?s why selecting the right one can be difficult. In the event that you plan to obtain a condo for yourself you constantly need to recognize what you desire and make a decision from there. By doing this, you can obtain the best condominium that accommodates your spending budget.
A leasehold owner is only allowed to sub-rent the condo if this is agreed in the condominium lease contract. Otherwise the law stipulate that sub-rent is not allowed.
Aside from privacy and convenience, condo rentals also offer some of the most luxurious accommodations available. Most hotels simply cannot compete with the lavish accommodations that these units offer. You will love the plush furniture and the private access that these units offer, and you will be blown away by the fact that they offer everything you could ever want in a vacation home at a price that is surprisingly affordable. Once you experience this, you will never want to stay in any other type of unit.
Most condominiums have a list of association rules and regulations by which you will have to abide if you purchase a condo. Be aware that these rules can dictate pet policies, when you can have work done inside your unit, what colors you can use to paint, whether you can display decorations on the exterior of your condo, how many visitors you can have at a certain time, and so forth. Make sure you are comfortable with this kind of regulation in your life before buying a condo.
Aside from the factors mentioned above, looking into the payables is also another way to prefer your condo division. You have to know if you can present the monthly fees or not. Some Miami Beached condo units ask for ultra fees for their amenities while others present their facilities for boundless.
Sure, now could be a great time to buy a Condo in a specific neighborhood, but it?s also important to be honest with yourself with your life plans. If you?ve lived in a certain community for five years but have always wanted to live in a different city or state, purchasing a condo will tie you down, making that move impossible for the time being.
CB Richard Ellis has also noted changes in Thai lifestyles as younger Thais have gradually shifted from living in single detached homes to condominiums. This trend is most noticeable among white collar workers who work in the downtown Bangkok.
Condo Corner?s goal is to simplify the real estate process for you by providing a client-focused experience designed to find or sell your condo in the least amount of time for the right price.

Many taxpayers claim real estate property on their tax return. Many tourists are thronging to this place to avail Myrtle Beach Condo rentals.

Kuwait drama on war unity contrasts current feuds

In this Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 photo, a Kuwaiti man watches Alrai TV drama series "Saher al lail" online in his house in Salwa, Kuwait. Each night for the past three weeks, families in Kuwait have been transfixed by a drama in which they already know the ending: Iraq forces will be driven out and the shattered Gulf nation will rebuild. But a 30-part television serial on Iraq's 1990 invasion has become more than just a retelling of the occupation and the brief but intense Gulf War. The series is being seen by many as a reminder of past national unity at a time when Kuwait is caught in a near endless cycle of tribal bickering and political showdowns between the Western-backed ruling family and conservative Islamists, who want to impose measures such as banning public concerts and blocking women athletes from major sporting events. (AP) ?

Tensions over the Gulf Arab showdowns with Shiite power Iran also have brought pressures on Kuwait's minority Shiites.

The series "Saher al-Lail" ? "Insomniac" in Kuwait's Arabic dialect ? is the most ambitious attempt by a Kuwait TV network to portray the invasion and six-month occupation. It follows the story of an extended Kuwaiti family: a Kuwaiti diplomat married to an Iraqi; their son, an army officer held in prison; and the diplomat's nephews and nieces in the resistance, including one who is captured and tortured by Saddam Hussein's soldiers.

Across the Muslim world, television series are a staple of the Ramadan holy month, which draws to a close this weekend. The plots typically reach back into Islamic history for stories of bravery and betrayal. The Kuwait series, however, deals with a conflict whose wounds are still not fully healed over issues such as missing prisoners of war.

The screenplay writer, Fahad al-Aliwa, said he attempted to steer away from the political complexities and contradictions of the occupation ? which included fabricated testimony in Washington about Iraqi atrocities recounted by the Kuwait ambassador's daughter pretending to be a refugee witness.

Instead, al-Aliwa sought to celebrate the national myths of unwavering resistance and honor during the occupation, much like Hollywood's World War II epics of the 1960s in which the Yanks always found a way to pull it out.

"During these troubling times when sectarianism is tearing apart our society, I found it to be vital to remind people of a time when all their differences didn't matter and what mattered was what they share in common: their country," said al-Aliwa, who was 6 years old when Saddam's tanks rolled across the border on Aug. 2, 1990. "It is not my role to discuss politics."

But indirectly, the messages of national unity stand as a counterpoint to the current divides in Kuwait.

Kuwait's parliament ? the most politically empowered in the Gulf ? is currently in limbo over disputes between the ruling family and lawmakers that include claims of widespread corruption. Boycotts by parliament members have pushed the country closer to possible new elections, which were won by Islamist-led opposition groups in the last voting in February.

Shortly after the February election, Islamist lawmakers said they would seek constitutional changes to replace the country's mix of legal codes with only Islamic Sharia. Kuwait's emir blocked the plan. But hardline conservatives have tried to exert themselves in other ways, including closing down an art exhibition deemed "profane." The works feature men and women mingling and include images of liquor bottles.

The emir, Sheik Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, issued a thinly veiled warning to the political opposition on Monday, saying he would "not tolerate" groups that impede "the process of development in the country."

A Kuwaiti in his late 60s who would give his name only as Abu Nasser, or Father of Nasser, believes the country has lost touch with its sense of national purpose, which many believe reached its zenith during the rebuilding years after U.S.-led forces drove out Saddam's troops in early 1991.

"After more than two decades, we are still none the wiser. People talk a lot about how the differences were obliterated, but things improved after the invasion for a little while only and then got worse," said Abu Nasser, who volunteered to run a grocery store during the invasion. "I certainly hope that this drama series will have a positive impact on people."

He and several others interviewed by The Associated Press refused to give their full names because issues about the occupation remain a highly sensitive topic in Kuwait.

Kuwaiti novelist and women's rights activist Laila al-Othman hoped the series would spur deeper study of the occupation by Kuwait's young population ? with about than half the country below 30 years old and with little or no memory of the Iraqi invasion.

"It's important that they learn what happened and that they learn about the values of solidarity that helped the country get back on its feet after the invasion," she said.

What took place during the invasion, including stories of torture, rape and summary killings, are clouded by rumors and conjecture. Very little has officially been documented aside from numbers of executions and stories of martyrs, which are retold as part of an oral tradition where fact and embellishment are often blurred.

But al-Aliwa also took pains to avoid stoking tensions between Kuwait and Iraq. The dialogue refers to Saddam, and the occupying troops are simply referred to as "they" without mentioning the word Iraqis.

A Kuwaiti man in his late 40s, who would give his name only as Abu Yousef, says he vividly remembers the killings.

"A young man from our neighborhood ? younger than I ? was lying on the floor in front of his house in a pool of his own blood. I couldn't believe my eyes," said the man. "I stopped the car and got out, and to this day I remember this scene very well. I remember how his grief-stricken mother sobbed loudly and I remember how she sat next to his body as if waiting for him to wake up."

He tempers his war stories with praise for the solidarity that comes from crisis.

"It was as if all differences have melted away," he said. "People helped each other out in every way they could. We operated the bakeries, cleaned the streets, helped those who needed money, and issues like sect and background didn't come between us. We all learned the value of our solidarity."

BPL chairman admits to having made mistakes ? Cricket News Update

Gazi Ashraf Hossain, Bangladesh Premier League?s governing council chairman, has admitted that the first edition the league was flawed on many counts ? however, he went on to promise that the second edition of the competition would improve on these mistakes, stating that the entire tournament would collapse if the franchises involved were unable to survive.

?It was the first time and people learn from their mistakes, but it was a costly mistake,? Ashraf admitted.

?We are now considering issues which we should have thought of before the tournament. I won't deny that we made mistakes, and I think emotions ruled over our actual ability to stage the tournament,? he added. ?In the second edition, we'll try to create a win-win situation for players and teams. If teams aren't sustained, the tournament will collapse and along with it will go the cricket standards and players' futures.?

Following the culmination of the BPL?s inaugural edition in February this year, the tournament continues to make headlines. In addition to criticism regarding a lack of organisation and pre-planning, the tournament has also been financially unstable, with extended delays having occurred in paying contracted players their salaries.

Faced with the gargantuan task of organising an event on such a large scale, the organisers, predictably, made several first-time errors. Lacking knowledge regarding drafting a budget, and the selection of players, the organising committee counted too heavily for sponsorship on companies which were venturing into such an event for the first time.

The result was that players? salaries were inexplicably delayed, with cricketers such as Pakistan?s Shahid Afridi and Dhaka Gladiators coach Ian Pont confirming that they had not been paid their full amount.

Bangladesh and Duronto Rajshahi skipper Mushfiqur Rahim also spoke out to criticise the tournament, claiming that in addition to the payment delays (Rahim claimed players had been promised 75% of their contracted amount before the culmination of the tournament), there had been a severe lack of organisation, with his team remaining in the dark regarding which team they would be facing in the first semi-final.

Deadlines in May and July were set up for the clearance of player dues, but the franchises failed to come good on their promise, despite repeated reminders by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA). The board has finally been forced to step in and handle player payments, in addition to the tax issues raised by the National Board of Revenue.

Bridging Indonesia's Digital Divide

The Southeast Asian nation is poised for fast growth, but must clear tech infrastructure hurdles.

On a sunny day, 12-year-old Jofanka Hemdhicow was one of 50 students crowding around a minibus parked outside his school watching a computer simulation of a news program. Hemdhicow took a turn imitating the TV newscaster in a virtual audition, triggering laughs from his classmates. Computers aren?t new to him ? he has an old laptop at home that he likes to use for Facebook ? yet he doesn?t have access to blazing fast broadband much less the current technology he has seen in the minibus.

School children in Yogyakarta, Indonesia gather around laptop computers during a Broadband Learning Center visit to their school.

The bus, ?Zona Seru Cerdaskan Bangsa,? or Broadband Learning Center, that visited Jetis 2-Sleman Jogja Middle Schoolin Yogyakarta, Indonesia is loaded with educational technology. In addition to laptops and computer hardware, it has broadband access provided by Speedy Telekom, learning content from Google and financing options for computer purchases. The program is backed by Intel and Telekom Indonesia. The bus and its crew of seven have been visiting schools and communities in rural areas of central Java to host workshops for teachers and students to help bridge Indonesia?s digital divide.

?In isolated areas of Indonesia, books are the only source of information that people know about,? said Rosyidul Umam Aly of Indonesia Telekom in a statement. ?Zona Seru Cerdaskan Bangsa will hopefully demonstrate new ways of learning.?

Indonesia schools have been striving to advance teaching and learning through technology adoption. In 2011, the Indonesia Ministry of Education announced the ?SabakMoE? project, a collaboration with Telkom Indonesia, to bring tablets to classrooms. According to IDC, this year Indonesia will move into a transformative phase where technology will play a major role in enabling traditional economies and boosting economic growth in the society. Indonesia?s economic growth is expected to lead all Southeast Asian nations in 2012 and IT spending is forecasted to reach $12.9 billion by the end of year, an 18 percent year-on-year growth.

Indonesia?s demography makes growth prospects look even more positive. The world?s fourth-most populous nation has 125 million people younger than age of 30 and a middle class that numbers 70 million. To harness this tremendous demographic opportunity, Indonesia is looking to a modern curriculum and educational technology.

Yogyakarta is home to many public and private institutions, including Gadjah Mada University. Educational opportunities have attracted many parents to the fast-growing city of 388,000 in hopes their children will enter one of the colleges. Alisan, a 33-year-old taxi driver in Yogyakarta who declined to give his full name, is one example. He aspires to buy a PC for his 6-year-old daughter and believes it will improve her chances of having better access to education.

"Zona Seru Cerdaskan Bangsa," or Broadband Learning Center, is a high-tech learning center housed in a minibus that is visiting schools and communities in rural areas of central Java to host workshops for teachers and students.

Access to technology has spurred innovation beyond education in traditional sectors of the Indonesian economy. Batik designs date back hundreds of years. Today, with the fabric printing technique in the midst of a style revival, Nancy Magried is using software to create fractal designs of batik products for her company, Batik Fractal based in Bandung, West Java. In Jepara, long a center of Javanese teak woodcarving, Manampin Girsang, owner of Gabe Art Furniture, has used his first PC to build a website promoting his company, a move that has drawn business from as far away as Sweden and Norway.

Aulia Rachim Lubis owns Manuskript, a Yogyakarta-based business that helps companies build iPhone applications. The 28-year-old entrepreneur has global ambitions beyond his home base on Java, but believes that Yogyakarta could become Indonesia?s Silicon Valley. ?On the Internet, the whole world is our market,? said Aulia said.

Though data on Indonesia?s economic potential is cause for optimism, some reports indicate the country may have problems sustaining growth. The democratic government is still struggling to provide strong infrastructure and operation support. According to Global Information Technology Report 2012, Indonesia ranked 80th out of 142 nations in networked readiness, 74th on an index of current technology availability and less than 10 percent of the population uses the Internet. However, the country ranks much higher on government procurement of technology (34th) and capacity for innovation (30th).

Technology is likely to play a key to role in fueling Indonesia?s continued growth as it is adopted more widely by the government, schools and its people.

Helpful Home Improvement Tips For Every Homeowner ...

Organize your closet by purchasing some designer paper boxes. You can usually find paper boxes with a nice patterned design at your local store. Use these boxes to organize your seasonal clothing, hide winter accessories, purses you aren?t using or shoes you won?t need for a while. Using patterned paper boxes makes the layout of your closet appear more organized and provide a hiding spot for things you?re not using.

Many homeowners are irritated by the buzzing and flickering emitting from their large, fluorescent overhead fixtures. For a relatively small charge, most electricians can quickly and easily install an electronic ballast. A ballast will cut down on noise and flickering, while eliminating excessive energy usage. Ballasts are also available for lighting that is on a dimmer switch.

Always use a guide when you are using a circular saw. A guide is a straight piece of material that you may simply push the saw against while you are cutting. Circular saws are notoriously difficult to control, and by simply clamping down a scrap piece of wood, you will ensure a straighter, more controlled cut.

Rearranging your furniture can be fun, but oftentimes you need visual aides to determine where to put everything. A great way to arrange furniture with visual aiding is by taking a piece of graph paper and cutting out square shapes in a scaled format to represent your different pieces of furniture. You can easily toss your graph paper pieces around and decide how everything can fit together. It definitely saves you the trouble of pushing your furniture around first.

Drain your hot water heater every six months. A well maintained hot water heater will last longer and run more efficiently too. This project is as simple as locating the drain valve, attaching a hose, and turning the valve in the same way you would turn a spicket.

Always make sure your air conditioner filters are clean and are replaced regularly. When the filters for your AC are dirty, the airflow is restricted. This causes your AC unit to use more energy, driving up the cost of your energy bill. Therefore, keeping filters clean ensures you enjoy a reduction in your monthly energy expense.

Improve your home by removing items you don?t need. You will have more space and your home will appear to be bigger. De-clutter by throwing away, storing or donating unneeded items such as clothes, furniture, etc. Even packing your stuff away in boxes and putting them in the attic will remove things from your immediate living area.

How sustaining is your house?s insulation? Maybe your attic has never been insulated. Insulation has everything to do with energy cost and efficiency. Fully insulating your home significantly adds to the value of your home as well as reducing the operating costs. Have an insulation check done, and improve the areas that are not fully insulated.

If your backyard is on a slope, consider building a deck to extend your living area. A sloped backyard in itself is not an ideal space for any type of activity. However, if you add a deck, you can furnish it with deck furniture and make an outdoor retreat where you can relax or entertain friends.

A great tip when it comes to home improvement is too replace all your old appliances with newer more energy efficient models. Not only will it look better in your kitchen and laundry facility, but it will also save you on your electricity bill. That?s two birds with one stone.

The shingles on your roof will at some point need to be replaced. As asphalt shingles get older, they start to lose the bound granules and curl up on the corners of the sheets. If you are experiencing leaks that have gone through the ceiling, then it is definitely time to lay down a new roof. Otherwise, if your roof has lost several shingles, this is a less drastic but firm indication that it?s time to replace the roof.

To remove nicks or scratches from kitchen cabinets, recondition the wood with oil, and then install new handles or knobs. Another option is to replace just the doors or door fronts. This is a little work but far cheaper than completely re-facing your cabinets, and your kitchen will get a brand new look.

Rather than wait decades to save up the money for a total remodel, why not look for home improvement projects of all sizes and scales? By following the advice in this article, you can discover the joys of making occasional enhancements and upgrades to your home without waiting for a day that may never come.

Coalition to unveil building package - FT

LONDON (Reuters) - Coalition is preparing to unveil a new stimulus package next month in a drive to encourage house building in its ailing construction sector, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

The draft proposal will be announced by either Prime Minister David Cameron or his deputy, Nick Clegg.

The plan features a complex scheme under which the government would relax rules requiring private house builders to incorporate social housing in big projects.

Under the plan, housing associations and private house builders would have to "sit around the table" and agree to work together on large sites.

The government may also underwrite bonds issued by housing associations, which could reduce their borrowing costs and allow them to step into the gap left by private house builders, the FT said.

The proposal was drawn up by Oliver Letwin, the prime minister's head of policy, along with Grant Shapps, housing minister, and Danny Alexander, chief secretary to the Treasury.

The Many Tricks To Cheap Home Improvement | Fabulous Floors ...

TIP! It?s crucial that you change the air filters in your home. This makes your air better to breathe, but it also helps out your air conditioner and heating system too.

With the right tools and enough knowledge, you can make just about any dream project become a reality. In this article, you will find helpful advice and tips on how to get the most out of potential projects in your home. If you put these tips to use, you will be able to have the home that you have always wanted.

TIP! Whenever you are planning any major improvements, it is imperative not to forget your permits. Contact your city council if you are unsure of what requires a permit.

The bathroom is another vital part of the house when you?re trying to flip it. Bathrooms are more expensive to update than living rooms or bedrooms, and potential buyers can definitely be turned off by having to spend a lot of money updating one. Replace any worn or outdated tub, shower or sink. If you have linoleum flooring, install tiles instead.

TIP! Some improvement can also save you money on energy bills. Light bulbs that are Energy Star qualified can use 75% less energy than regular incandescent bulbs, and they can cut down on carbon emissions.

When selecting a home improvement contractor, interview each potential company and find out more about who they are. Have they previously done work on homes similar to yours? Similar projects can be found in the same price region and in the same scope; so take your time and choose correctly. Review their body of work to find out if their work is compatible with your renovation design.

TIP! If you plan on using bricks for your project, you should always purchase more bricks than you need. If you should need to repair or add to brickwork, you may have a difficult time trying to match the bricks you already have.

Plastic 2-liter bottles are an excellent kitchen storage option. They are transparent and are great for storing sugar, flour and similar staples. You can keep them in a freezer, refrigerator, or on a shelf. You can pop off the cap and the contents will pour right out.

TIP! When adding any type of home improvement project, you want to make sure that it is your own. However, don?t deviating too much from the other homes in your area.

Vinyl decks have been increasingly more popular for homeowners. To prolong the life of a vinyl deck and keep it looking new, regular cleaning, at least twice a year, is essential. The best time to take of the vinyl deck is during the spring and fall months.

TIP! Get references from anyone you hire to do improvements at your home. Think of this in terms of importance as you would when looking to hire an employee.

When you can, use materials that are natural for your home improvement projects. Natural materials such as wood, ceramic or stone are almost always superior to synthetic alternatives. They are also much better looking, and also longer lasting. While natural materials may cost more up-front, they will cost less in the grand scheme of things since you won?t have to replace them as often.

TIP! You should be paying most attention to visible improvements in your home. Buyers will judge a home on visual appeal and may be deterred from buying if they notice something wrong.

Now that you?ve come to the end of this article, it?s time to gather the supplies you need for your project. If you see that it?s getting tough during some parts of your home improvement project, go back over the information you read here to see if there was anything you may have forgotten about that can help you successfully complete the project

Speedy ions could add zip to quantum computers

ScienceDaily (Aug. 13, 2012) ? Take that, sports cars! Physicists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) can accelerate their beryllium ions from zero to 100 miles per hour and stop them in just a few microseconds. What's more, the ions come to a complete stop and hardly feel the effects of the ride. And they're not just good for submicroscopic racing -- NIST physicists think their zippy ions may be useful in future quantum computers.

The ions (electrically charged atoms) travel 100 times faster than was possible before across a few hundred micrometers in an ion trap -- a single ion can go 370 micrometers in 8 microseconds, to be exact (about 100 miles per hour.)

Although ions can go much faster in accelerators, the NIST ions demonstrate precision control of fast acceleration and sudden stops in an ion trap. A close analogy is a marble resting at the bottom of a bowl, and the bowl suddenly accelerating (see animation). During the transport, the marble will oscillate back and forth relative to the center of the bowl. If the bowl is suddenly stopped at the right time, the marble will come to rest together with the bowl. Furthermore, the NIST researchers assured that their atomic marble's electron energy levels are not affected, which is important for a quantum computer, where information stored in these energy levels would need to be moved around without compromising the information content.

For a quantum computer to solve important problems that are intractable today, the information carried by many quantum bits, or qubits, needs to be moved around in the processor. With ion qubits, this can be accomplished by physically moving the ions. In the past, moving ions took much longer than the duration of logic operations on the ions. Now these timescales are nearly equivalent. This reduces processing overhead, making it possible to move ions and prepare them for reuse much faster than before.

As described in Physical Review Letters, NIST researchers cooled trapped ions to their lowest quantum energy state of motion and, in separate experiments, transported one and two ions across hundreds of micrometers in a multi-zone trap. Rapid acceleration excites the ions' oscillatory motion, which is undesirable, but researchers controlled the deceleration well enough to return the ions to their original quantum state when they came to a stop. A research group from Mainz, Germany, reports similar results.

The secret to the speed and control is custom electronics. NIST researcher Ryan Bowler used fast FPGA (field programmable gate array) technology to program the voltage levels and durations applied to various electrodes in the ion trap. The smooth voltage supply can move the ions very fast while also keeping them from getting too excited.

With advances in precision control, researchers think ions could be transported even more quickly and yet still return to their original quantum states when they stop. Researchers must also continue to work on the many practical challenges, such as suppressing unwanted heating of the ion motion from noisy electric fields in the environment. The research is supported by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, National Security Agency, Office of Naval Research, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

INGREDIENTS TO MAKE VEGETABLE CURRY

*2 large onions, finely chopped

*2 tblsp. oil

*1 tsp. cumin seeds

*1 tsp. mustard seeds (the black kind, if possible)

*8 medium potatoes, quartered

*1 and 1/2 tsp. fresh ginger, crushed

*1 large garlic clove, minced and crushed

*1 tblsp. ground cumin

*1 tblsp. whole coriander, crushed

*2 chili peppers or 1 tsp. cayenne pepper

*1/2 tsp. turmeric

*1 tsp. salt

*4 cinnamon sticks

*6 cloves

*4 oz. tomato paste

*1/2 lb. green beans

*1/2 of a small Cauliflower

*1 medium Eggplant

*1/2 lb. fresh green peas, shelled, or 1 small package of frozen green peas

1. bunch of fresh leafy greens (kale, spinach, collards, etc.), or 1 small package of frozen greens

*1/2 cup dry Chickpeas, cooked (optional)

DIRECTIONS TO MAKE VEGETABLE CURRY

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large, heavy skillet or pot, brown the onions in moderately hot oil along with the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Add the Potato pieces (peeling is optional), and stir to coat each piece with the spices.

Now add the remaining spices and continue to stir for several minutes. Thin the tomato paste with about 2/3 cup of water. Stir into the pot.

Add vegetables, one at a time, cooking for a minute or so between each addition, and put in the cooked Chickpeas last.
If your pot is not oven proof, transfer mixture to one that is. Cover with a lid or seal with foil and bake for about 45 minutes, checking after the first 20 minutes.

The consistency should be rather thick, but add liquid if necessary to prevent burning. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Serve over rice or with Indian bread.

Kenyan vegetarian Curry recipe is often simplicity itself: It focuses on bringing out the purest natural flavors of the ingredient itself without a lot of handling. That?s why if you prepare it with second-rate produce you can be disappointed. Use natural fresh fruit and vegetables and you?ll be happily surprised.

NEC MultiSync E201W

By John R. Delaney

The NEC MultiSync E210W is a compelling choice for businesses looking to trim costs without sacrificing ergonomic comfort. This 20-inch monitor features a stand that allows you to position the panel to achieve the best possible viewing experience, and it offers three video inputs, including DisplayPort. It doesn't require much power to operate and is built using recycled materials. However, it lacks HDMI and USB ports and its grayscale and off angle viewing performance could better.

Design and Features
The E201W look like a typical business display; the 1600-by-900 TN panel is framed by thin (0.50 inch) bezels and is housed in a plain matte black cabinet measuring 2.2 inches and weighing 7.6 pounds. The 11-inch mounting arm provides height and tilt adjustability, and the round base contains a Lazy Susan mechanism for swivel adjustments. You can also pivot the panel 90 degrees for viewing in portrait mode, but you'll have to use your graphics card's control panel to change image orientation as it does not support auto-rotation.

The back of the cabinet is home to VGA, DVI, and DisplayPort video inputs. You won't find an HDMI port on this model, nor will you find any USB ports or speakers. Positioned along the lower screen bezel are five buttons that are used for navigating the on-screen display (OSD) and for making quick input selections and ECO Mode adjustments. One of the buttons is a four-way rocker switch that makes it easy to choose menu items and tweak picture settings. There's also a light sensor that works with the Auto Brightness feature which changes brightness settings depending on ambient light. Auto Brightness can also be set to react to white content or a combination of white content and ambient light.

There are six DV modes (picture presets) including Standard, Movie, Photo, Text, Gaming, and Dynamic. Standard mode offers the best picture quality for everyday use and is the setting that I used for my testing. The six color temperature adjustments include 9300K, 7500K, 5000k, and Native color settings as well as a User setting and an sRGB setting. Along with separate Brightness and Contrast settings there are two ECO Mode options; one is an Energy Star setting and the other changes luminance settings to reduce power consumption by 30 percent. This model also features NEC's Carbon and Cost Savings meter which shows you how much money you save while operating in ECO mode using your own cost per KWh formula. It displays the carbon savings in kilograms.

NEC covers the E201W with a three year parts, labor, and backlight warranty. The monitor comes with a user guide and DVI and VGA cables. A DisplayPort cable is not included.

Performance
The E201W did a good job of displaying every segment of the DisplayMate Color Scales test image. Colors appeared uniform across the scale and were evenly saturated with no obvious tinting errors. Small text was sharp and well defined down to 5.3 points (the smallest font on the Scaled Fonts test). Grayscale performance was lacking; the panel was unable to display the lightest and darkest shades of gray on the 64-Step Grayscale test. The two darkest swatches appeared black and the lightest swatches were white-washed. Grayscale performance won't be much of a factor while conducting everyday office tasks, but if you require grayscale accuracy for things like photo editing, this monitor will likely disappoint.

As is the case with most TN monitors, the E201W looks best when viewed from the sweet spot, which is head on. When viewed from a side angle there is noticeable color shifting where whites appear tan and the overall picture loses luminance. The view from the bottom is worse as the screen becomes way too dark and color shifting is dramatic. You can avoid this by using the height adjustment to keep the panel at eye level, but you'll certainly notice it when you pivot the panel for portrait mode viewing.

The E201W used 19 watts of power during my testing while operating with ECO Mode disabled. Switching to ECO Mode 1 dropped power usage to 17 watts and the picture was still bright enough for a typical office environment. In ECO Mode 2, power usage dropped to 12 watts without becoming too dim. Given the E201W's low power consumption and use of recycled materials, it merits our Greentech stamp of approval.

With a sub-$200 price tag and numerous eco-friendly features, the NEC MultiSync E201W can help businesses save money on capital expenditures while reducing utility costs. It comes with a couple of options not typically found on budget-class monitors, most notably a four-way adjustable stand and three video inputs, and it delivers good color and small text reproduction. Grayscale performance is not this monitor's strong suit, however, and the picture deteriorates when viewed from side, top, and bottom angles. If viewing angle and grayscale performance is a deal breaker, consider the Editors' Choice Asus VS229H-P . It uses IPS technology and offers much better color and grayscale quality, and it looks good from any angle. You'll have to live without the ergonomic stand though.
